Mums and Daughters

From left to right; Lee, her mum Lesley, Alice and her mum Linda riding the Speyside Way

After receiving lots of enquiries from older women asking how they got involved with the sorts of adventures they saw us doing, we decided to test out the idea of a three-day older women’s bike packing trip through the Cairngorm National Park in partnership with Hostelling Scotland and Cairngorms Connect and supported by Nethy House and Aviemore Bikes. All six of us had an absolute hoot and are keen to offer this adventure to other mothers and daughters in the future.

Our mums rode e-bikes an average of 14 miles a day and we slept inside each night. We also offered all the mechanical and nutritional support which left us satisfied but utterly exhausted!

“That’s when I entered ‘mum’ mode and tried to dissuade them, but they were going so fast I couldn’t catch them.

“It was probably the highlight of the trip for me - they were doing this really impressive thing and getting on with it.” Alice
