What is Match the Miles?

Every year Adventure Syndicate directors Lee and Jenny ride their bikes day and night for five days while encouraging schools, workplaces and individuals to follow their GPX tracking device and to Match the Miles they ride.

Every year is different: different route; different weather; different participants. But every year Match the Miles encourages more people to get active and to challenge their perceptions of what they are capable of.

Match the Miles is funded by the Paths for All Smarter Choices Smarter Places Open Fund. This fund helps third sector organisations run projects that encourage people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday short (or long!) journeys. The fund aims to reduce carbon emissions, encourage healthy, daily physical activity and reduce health inequalities.

What’s the latest Match the Miles?

In 2021, The Adventure Syndicate will pedal and paddle three of Scotland’s rivers from their source to the sea. On our way, we’ll be bringing you the stories of the rivers as they wind and meander their way to the sea.

We’ll be filming, podcasting, photographing and writing all about our journeys. We’ll also be bringing you along for the ride with brand new Match the Miles challenges for each river. Click on the image to find out more about the adventures we have planned!

Match the Miles 2020

Match the Miles 2020 was a little different to normal…with the Covid-19 pandemic bringing everyday life to a standstill, we had to rethink what Match the Miles could look like.

And so, between the 11th-15th May 2020, The Adventure Syndicate set everyone the target of exercising for 2 hours everyday and recording their exercise through our brand new app! In line with Government guidelines, Lee and Jenny accrued the majority of their 2 hours exercise indoors on rollers, yoga mats, stairs, chairs and of course a few cargo bikes for good measure.

Their time spent exercising was converted (via our clever app) to miles travelled and represented as a dot on a virtual map of the 550 mile Highland Trail bike packing route in the Scottish Highlands.

We had over 1500 participants for Match the Miles 2020 and we collectively logged 297, 852 miles (that’s the same as completing the Highland Trail 542 times or cycling round the world 16.5 times)! And all of this during the Covid-19 lockdown…nice one everyone!
