What is the #FreeMovement Festival?
The Free Movement Festival 2022 is a 3-day sustainable travel festival aimed at encouraging more people (especially young people and under represented groups) to have an adventure by accessing the Cairngorms National Park using only sustainable transport (walking, running, cycling, wheeling, swimming and / or taking public transport).
This is a small-scale pilot event of around 40 people who will share their active journeys online along the way. It will be an ‘adventure race’ style event, where participants travel self-supported or by pubic transport to reach the festival site deep in the heart of the Cairngorms. At the festival, there will be a celebration on Staurday night with camping and live music and on Sunday there will be workshops and talks to inspire everyone’s next adventure.
Whilst the travelling to and from the festival site will be focused on raising awareness and promoting the use of sustainable transport, the festival itself will aim to inspire engagement with the outdoors, have fun and meet new advebture buddies.
Through organising the Free Movement Festival, we want to empower participants to take positive action to combat the climate crisis through making sustainable travel choices. Sustainable travel makes the outdoors more accessible to a wider audience, which means that more people can gain the health and well-being benefits that connection with green spaces bring us.
This is a partnership event including The Adventure Syndicate, Scottish Outdoors Young Team (SOYT), Paths for All, Komoot, Spirit & Spice, Hostelling Scotland and local bike shops.
