Following on from our successful winter gathering this January near Granada in southern Spain, where 10 new friends circumnavigated the Sierra Nevada together, we are offering 8 more women the support they need to experience their own backpacking adventure.
Whether you have aspirations to race the Transcontinental or The Tour Divide, want to learn to ride back-to-back days by bike or already know how to bikepack and just want to meet and travel with like-minded people, come to Spain with us. You won’t regret it.
We encourage participants to learn from each other but also present in Spain and offering their brains for picking will be Lee Craigie, Jenny Graham and Rickie Cotter.
Based out of lovely self-catering accommodation in Monachil near Granada, we will gather together a group of women who already have some experience of travelling long distances by bike (ie are capable of riding for a full day) and inspire, encourage and enable them to ride out fully self-supported to sleep for one or two nights in the Sierra Nevada mountains. While at basecamp in Monachil we encourage the whole group to take turns cooking for each other and spend time sharing each others knowledge, experience, hopes and fears.
As before, preparation rides and any proposed bikepacking routes will not be officially led but GPX tracks will be made available.
A gravel bike or mountain bike with fast rolling tyres is recommended for this gathering but there is excellent road riding too and overnight options available for all three. If you can’t decide which bike to bring, our friends at Ride Sierra Nevada can rent you something to tackle the more technical off-road stuff if you’re keen on that kind of thing (which we are).
Monachil is placed on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Good weather is not guaranteed. Just saying ;)
You will receive:
7 nights of self-catering accommodation at basecamp in a charming village in the hills near Granada
The loan of all backpacking equipment you require.
A workshop on how to use the equipment and how to cook and carry food.
Two inspirational talks / film showings from Lee Craigie, Rickie Cotter and Jenny Graham
1:1 sessions with Lee or Jenny while in Spain to help you reach your post trip goals (plus access to coaching and mental preparation training from our friends John Hampshire and Karen Darke)
GPX files of recommended day routes as well as a range of one or two night backpacking expedition options.
Cost £400 Click here to pay in full and reserve your place.
NB: You are responsible for booking your own flights to Malaga or Granada and getting to Monachil. A bus leaves from outside Malaga airport to Granada every hour and costs €20. Monachil is a 15 minute taxi ride from Granada centre or a 30 minute ride. An airport transfer for the entire group could be made available on request at an extra cost.
